Blanche Maxine Dailey Borton, a resident of Kahoka, Mo., from 1943 to 1968, and of Bettendorf, Iowa, for the last 32 years, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on August 20, 2005.
Throughout her life, she shared her wonderful sense of humor, exhibited a free spirit and demonstrated an unconditional love of her family and for life. Mrs. Borton volunteered extensively in her communities with schools, her church, and the symphony. She was active in politics, serving as a member of the Missouri delegation to the 1952 Republican National Convention. Later, Mrs. Borton traveled extensively for pleasure throughout North America, particularly enjoying Hawaii, California, Colorado, the Gulf Coast and Mexico. This past Fourth of July, four generations of Bortons and dear friends helped her celebrate her 88th birthday, and she did so with great fun and enthusiasm.
Born on July 15, 1917, in Lineville, Iowa, Mrs. Borton married Marion Ellis Borton on August 27, 1943, and they raised their family in Kahoka until moving to Quincy, Ill., in 1968. Following her husband's passing in 1973, Mrs. Borton moved to Bettendorf.
She is survived by four children, Jon Ann (Mrs. Dan) Ladwig, of Baring, Mo., Rickie Beth (Mrs. Scott) Hodges, of Circleville, Ohio, Sameta Dee (Mrs. John) Kemp, of Washington, D.C., and Charles B. Borton, of Davenport, Iowa. Mrs. Borton is also survived by her dear friend of 30 years, Earl Wendland, and one sister, Mae Jane (Mrs. Dean) Dubin, of Davenport, Iowa, as well as 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Marion, and son, Brett, and her brother, two sisters, and son-in-law.
Friends of the family are invited to attend a graveside service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 25, at the Kahoka Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Sever Memorial Library, 207 West Chestnut St., Kahoka, MO 63445 to support its children's services.
