Boyd L. Keller

Funeral services for Boyd L. Keller, 91, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 17, 2007 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Lions Club or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Mr. Keller died on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
He was born October 21, 1916 in Corydon, Iowa, the son of Lester & Phrone (Garten) Keller. On April 16, 1938, he was united in marriage to Adeline J. Pokorny in Bettendorf. Adeline preceded him in death on July 5, 1995.
In 1940, Boyd founded K & K Electrical which later became K & K Hardware which has been a Bettendorf landmark for 67 years. Boyd took great pride in his business through the years and was especially proud that 2nd and 3rd generations of his family continue to be part of the company.
Boyd was a community-minded person and was a charter member of the Bettendorf Lions Club and served on the Riverdale Town Council for over 30 years.
In early years, Boyd piloted his own plane and created many airborne adventures for his family and friends. As the years went by and his family became more and more involved in the business, he & Adeline were able to spend many enjoyable winter months at Lake Okeechobee, Florida where they made a sizable dent in the crappie population. They generously shared their catch with their many friends back home at their well-known fish fries.
Boyd also loved to travel and was an avid fan of the Bettendorf Bulldogs, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs.
He never truly “retired” and until the very end, remained involved and devoted to the store and his extended “K & K Family.”
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter & son-in-law, Darlene & Michael Kennedy of Bettendorf; his son & daughter-in-law, Don & Coleen Keller of Bettendorf; his grandchildren, Kortney Gaura & her husband, Chris of Bettendorf, Casey Keller & his wife, Hannah of Bettendorf, Kristi Keller of Bettendorf and Erin Kennedy & his wife, Julie of Plainfield, Illinois; his great-grandchildren, Grant & Josephina Gaura and Kelly, Nolan & Alison Kennedy; his brother & sister-in-law, Dwight & Alice Keller of Davenport; his sister-in-law, Irene Pokorny of Davenport; and many other relatives and beloved friends.
In addition to his wife, Adeline, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest & Edward; his sisters-in-law, Ruth Keller and Jeanette Taylor; and his brother-in-law, Walter Pokorny.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful people of Guardian Family Services who provided such loving and professional care during Boyd’s declining years.
