Brent Howard Christie, 58, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa died Sunday, January 9, 2011 in LeClaire.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 14, 2011 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Pleasant Valley, Iowa.
Brent was born May 4, 1952 in Davenport, Iowa the son of Max H. and Esther M. (O’Brien) Christie. He was an Eagle Scout and a 1970 graduate of Pleasant Valley High School. In 1974 he received a bachelor’s degree in Speech, Drama and English Education from the University of Iowa and received his master’s degree in Speech/Drama education in 1978.
Brent spent twenty-five years as an educator, spending twenty-three years teaching at Harding Middle School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He also taught at Jefferson High School, Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Fairfield High School, Fairfield, Iowa. Along with teaching, he coached Debate and Forensics, including Policy, Lincoln Douglas and Congress. He was the Drama Director/Technical Director at Harding and also coached intramural sports. He inspired a generation of thespians and future teachers. Most recently, he worked at the McDonalds in LeClaire where he greatly enjoyed the view of the Mississippi River and its majestic bald eagles.
Brent was a volunteer and strong supporter of the Buffalo Bill Museum and the City of LeClaire. He also enjoyed swimming/scuba and taking walks in the “woods”.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Ryan P. Howell, Des Moines, Iowa; his beloved dogs, Katie and Zeus; his sister Debbie Gimm, Davenport, Iowa and his cherished family and friends, Carol Howell, Al Bawden, Mary Howell Sirna and family, Jackie Wilkenson and family, Marilyn Westerhof and the Tefer and Young families in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Mark Christie.
Memorials may be made to the Buffalo Bill Museum, LeClaire, Iowa, the Humane Society of Scott County or the University of Iowa College of Law (In memory of Max H. and Esther M. Christie).
