Brian L. Utter, 65, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at his home following a 10-year battle with lung cancer.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 25. 2016 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. He will be laid to rest at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Born on July 3, 1950 in Davenport, he was son of William and Naomi (Klemme) Utter, was a 1968 graduate of Davenport Central High School and faithfully served in the Iowa National Guard. On June 28, 1975, he was united in marriage to Jill A. Jones at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Brian was Chairman of the Board and a Director of Armored Transportation for Global Security Services where he had worked for 16 years.
He was an avid & accomplished operator of radio controlled aircraft and was an active member of the Davenport Radio Controlled Society. In addition, Brian was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church of Davenport, the National Rifle Association and Ducks Unlimited.
Some of the things Brian most enjoyed were playing poker with his family, flying his airplanes and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. Brian was also a great fan of the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Jill; his sons, Brian C. (Jenifer) Utter of Durant, Iowa, Scott Utter of Davenport and Brad (Erin) Utter of Durant; his grandchildren, Kylie, Benjamin, Abigail, Madeline and Cameron; his mother-in-law, Geraldine Jones of Davenport; his sister-in-law, Judy Jones of Davenport; several nieces and nephews; his longtime and close friend, Max Melton; and a very special friend of the family, Lindy Schlichting.
Brian was preceded in death by his parents; William F. Utter and Naomi Utter; his brothers, William Utter Jr. and Michael Utter; his nephew, Mike Utter; and his father-in-law, Jack Jones.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Genesis Hospice for their compassionate and professional care shown to Brian and his family during this difficult time.
