Carl Eugene “Gene” Green, 87, a resident of Eldridge, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Bell Tower Assisted Living in East Dubuque, Illinois.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Long Grove. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 10 th , from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday, one hour prior to mass. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Dubuque or to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.

Born on March 17, 1928 in Elgin, Illinois, Gene was the son of Carl Axel and Sigrid (Munson) Green. On August 17, 1949 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, he married Lucille Marie Blondell. She preceded him in death on December 19, 2014.

Gene served his country in the United States Navy. He was a graduate of Davenport Central High School and the Iowa Barber College in Des Moines. Gene also attended St. Ambrose University. He along with his wife and their son, owned and operated Gene’s Hair Hut in Eldridge from 1952 – 2000. Gene was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, a charter member of the Eldridge Lions Club and served as a Scout Master for Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Eldridge City Council where he also served on the Eldridge Planning Zoning Board. He enjoyed bicycling, woodworking, fishing and hunting. Gene cherished his time spent with family, not only as a dad and grandpa, but a mentor and friend.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Ronald (Rhea) Green of Long Grove, Cheryl (Steve) Arp of Long Grove, Barbara (Richard) Peterson of Hastings, Minnesota and Patti (Jim) Peters of Dubuque; twelve grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
