Carl Jones

Carl Lee Jones, 82, departed this life at 5:55 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Pekin Manor Nursing Home, Pekin, Illinois. His family surrounded him with love and thought.

Visitation & Funeral will be held at the Davenport First Church of the Nazarene, 1010 North Clark Street, Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will be held Friday, November 16th from 4-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 17th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Davenport First Church of the Nazarene. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

Carl Lee Jones was born the son of Guy Fielden Jones & Bessie Marie (Sage) Jones on February 02, 1930, in Mystic, Iowa. He married Sharlene June (Ruby) Jones at the Numa Christian Church in Numa, Iowa, on October 23, 1949. Sharlene preceded him in death on March 22, 1994, at the Memorial Medical Cancer Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He married Doris Eileen (Morello) Jones at the Davenport First Church of the Nazarene on October 14, 1995. Doris preceded him in death on May 09, 2012, at Davenport Good Samaritan Center.

Carl was employed at the ALCOA Davenport Works from 1949 to 1988. He began his career as an hourly employee, was promoted to Shift Foreman and retired as Technical Supervisor of Cold Rolling. In 1984, Carl was awarded the first Arthur Vining Davis Award for Technical Excellence given by the Alcoa Company.

His employment prior to ALCOA was working at J.I. Case; laying railroad track as a gandy dancer & driving Numa School District’s school bus.

Carl was a member of Valley General Baptist Church from1959 to 1987, when he became a member of the Davenport First Church of the Nazarene. He was also a member of the Alcoa Retirees Club.

Carl’s volunteer contributions were Adult Sunday School Teacher; Nazarene Board Member; Moderator, Sunday School Superintendent & Trustee of Valley General Baptist Church; Camp Joy’s Board Member & Treasurer; Panorama Park Councilman; Coach & Umpire of Pleasant Valley Little League Association and Boy Scout’s Scoutmaster.

Carl Jones loved God and his family with zeal and determination. At church, he was known as the man who said, “AAAAAAAAmen”. When the family gathered together, he was famous for saying, “This is NIIIIIIIICE”. His faith, influence and steadfastness will be lifetime memories for those who loved and knew him. Carl’s descendants who continue his legacy of faith and love consist of: His three children and their spouses, Guy William and Linda “Lynn” Lea (Elliott) Jones, Larry Lee and Bethany Ann (Hatfield) Jones and Linda Sharlene Jones; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Aaron “Dusty” Anthony and Jaime Ruth (Johnson) Jones, Ethan Eliot and Casey Ann Krueger Jones, Summer Ann Jones, Angel Marie Jones, Jennifer Lind (Jones) and Christopher Cade Corley, Grace Renee (Jones) Ryan David Fico, Jessica Lea (Tippen) Corey Jasper Wolfe, Rachel Marie (Tippen) Scott Anthony Lamberson; three step-grandchildren and their spouses, Stacy Joan (Veitengruber) and Donald Paul Shewmake, Lynette Marjory Veitengruber, Deanna Susan Veitengruber; thirteen great-grandchildren, Tristan Cody Jones, Jacob William Jones, Katie Cassandra Jones, Eliot McKenna Jones, Britton Grace Jones, Brooklyn Faith Jones, Jack William Jones, Lila Addison Jones, Ryan Elizabeth Jones, Grayson Lee David Fico, Ethan Curtis Wolfe, Hunter Seth Lamberson, Macie Jolynn Lamberson; one step great-grandchild, Harper William Shewmake.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents Guy Fielden Jones & Bessie Marie (Sage) Jones; stepdad Tony P. Grenko, stepbrother Earl W. Grenko, sister Ethel Marie (Jones) Lira, half-sister Janice Kay Grenko, and Nephew Ronnie Lee Lira. Carl also has many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews who have a great deal of respect for him and will mourn his passing.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
