Carl H. Witt, 84, a resident of Durant, Iowa and formerly of Davenport, Iowa died on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 16, 2009 at the Word of Life Christian Center, 1804 7th Ave., Rock Island, Illinois where he was a member. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Word of Life Christian Center, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or Hein Manor in Durant.
He was born September 19, 1924 in DeWitt, Iowa, the son of Johannes & Rosa (Bey) Witt. On November 4, 1978, he was united in marriage to Jean E. (Kane) Toom in Davenport. She preceded him in death on March 3, 1996.
Carl was a life-long farmer in rural McCausland, Iowa and was a member of the Scott County Farm Bureau and the Davenport Eagles Lodge.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed doing word puzzles and playing euchre with his many friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his stepchildren, Sharon A. (A.R.) Thompson of New London, Missouri, Michael E. (Kay) Toom of Bettendorf and Rick (Mary) Toom of Bettendorf; six grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces & nephews and a very special friend, Reva Andersen.
In addition to his wife, his sisters, Katherine, Ida Mae & Mathilda; his brothers, Ernest, Richard, Arnold, Ben & Raymond; and his grandson, Mark Thompson, preceded Carl in death.
