Carma A. Hoffmann, 94, of Eldridge, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Manor Care, Utica Ridge in Davenport.
Her funeral service will be held at 12:30 P.M., Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church in Eldridge. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the services on Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Chambers Funeral Home of Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.
Carma was born September 2, 1922 in Maysville, Iowa to Hugo & Melinda (Brockman) Roehlk. She was united in marriage to Donald A. Hoffmann on August 25, 1945. Don passed away in 1985. They were the parents of six children.
After raising her children, Carma returned to secretarial work; she retired from the North Scott Community School District as a payroll secretary. Throughout her life, Carma’s greatness was her love for her family and those around her. Carma had a special devotion to children and her puppies, Lucy and Libby. She was rarely without one or the other on her lap. Her kindness had no boundaries; be it her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and in recent days, CNAs, nurses and doctors. Surrounded by this love, she felt blessed beyond compare.
Carma was a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church and belonged to the Eldridge American Legion Post 639. She was also an avid fan of the North Scott Lancers, the Iowa Hawkeyes and her World Champion Chicago Cubs.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Gary Hoffmann of Bettendorf, Mary (Dean) Bender of Eldridge, Betty Carlson of Eldridge, David (Pat) Hoffmann of Long Grove, Joni (Mark) Johnson of Davenport, Mark (Liz) Hoffmann of Long Grove; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren will miss her daily; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Don, Carma was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Kenneth Roehlk; her sister, Inez Mohr and her husband, Norman; her sister-in-law, Ione Schneckloth and her husband, Merle; her son-in-law, Marv Carlson; her daughter-in-law, Gloria Hoffmann; and her brother-in-law, Robert Hoffmann.
