Carol Stacia Roukey went to be with our Lord on July 1, 2017, at her home, surrounded by family.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Long Grove. Inurnment will be at St. Ann’s Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 5th from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Salesian Missions or Bethany Home. Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge is assisting the family.
Carol was born in New York City, April 22, 1928 to Walter and Mary Piepiora. She married Walter Roukey, September 28, 1946 in St. John Cantius Church, Northampton, Massachusetts. She was one of the first carhops on roller skates. Carol worked as an LPN for nine years at the Northampton Hospital. The family moved to Maysville, Iowa in 1965 then on to Eldridge, Iowa in 1972. They are members of the St. Ann’s Parish family. Carol loved working with children and worked with the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H Club and loved camping and spending time outdoors with her children and grandchildren. Carol worked as a teacher’s aide at the North Scott School District. She spent three years in the Women’s Auxiliary and Department of Defense School System while living in Germany and was recognized for starting the School Safety Patrol.
Carol was a member of the Garden Club, Red Hats, Questers, Maysville Bowling League, and the same card club for 52 years. Her greatest pastimes were spending time with family and friends, traveling, reading, gardening, and crafts. She was a gifted seamstress and loved sewing for family and friends, creating everything from wedding dresses to curtains.
Survivors include her husband, Walter Roukey; children, Bryan (Linda) Roukey of San Antonio, Texas, Kevin (Vicki) Roukey of Sparks, Nevada, Susan (Dr. Micheal) Schreck of Long Grove, Janine (Jake) Cawiezell of Eldridge, and Marcia (Jason) Richards of Olathe, Kansas; 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great- great-granddaughter; brother, Steve (Phyllis) Bachand of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her son, Carter; parents; and brother, Thaddeus.
