Carroll L. Johnson, 65, a resident of Bettendorf died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday, March 27, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday and one hour before services Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Genesis Hospice.
Carroll Lynn Johnson was born February 15, 1939 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Everett & Wilma (Darby) Johnson. In 1962, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 147th Ord. Co. receiving his honorable discharge in 1965. On March 20, 1965, he was united in marriage to Bonnie J. Griebel in Davenport, Iowa.
He was employed as a machinist in the roll shop at the Alcoa Company, Davenport Works. On April 1, 2001 after 35 years of dedicated service, he retired.
Carroll was a member of the Aluminum, Brick & Glassworkers Union Local 105 and was a devoted fan of the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and was fond of visiting the local river boat casinos as well.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Bonnie; his sons & daughter-in-law, Kenneth & Cindy Johnson and Brian Johnson, all of Davenport; his grandchildren, Kyle, Kristina and Austin; his sister, Sherry Mason of San Rafael, California; his brother & sister-in-law, William & Theresa Johnson of New York City, New York; and a special aunt, Thelma Kankel of Peoria, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
