Carroll “Mike” Schoenfelder, 84, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at the Kahl Home in Davenport, Iowa.
Funeral Services & Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Face masks will be required and social distancing will be observed for both visitation and Mass. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Davenport. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bettendorf Food Pantry.
Mike was born September 15, 1936 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Walter & Lucy (Bruty) Schoenfelder. Mike had served in the United States Army and completed his Master’s degree at the University of Iowa.
On December 28, 1963, he was united in marriage to Linda K. Lenz in Solon, Iowa. She preceded him in death on July 10, 2001.
Mike had been a physical education teacher at Fillmore Elementary in Davenport for over thirty years. An avid Iowa Hawkeyes and Bettendorf Bulldogs fan, he also had coached a variety of youth sports in Bettendorf for several years. Mike was supportive of his grandchildren’s activities, attending many of their functions. He had enjoyed ice skating in earlier years and was an avid reader, collecting antique books.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter and son-in-law, Krista & Kevin Mead of Holmen, Wisconsin; his sons and daughters-in-law, Steven & Kathy Schoenfelder of Antioch, Illinois, Kyle & Michelle Schoenfelder of Bettendorf and Brad & Tracy Schoenfelder of Batavia, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and his sister & brother-in-law, Regina & David Harper of rural Muscatine, Iowa.
In addition to his wife, Linda; Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Gerald; and a sister in infancy, Mary Ann.
The family would like to express special thanks to doctors, nurses and staff of the Kahl Home for all of their exceptional care and comfort for Mike.
