Catharine E. Haessler, 94, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa passed away at her home on Sunday, September 25, 2011.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. She will be laid to rest at Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Buffalo Bill Museum, the LeClaire Civic Center or Genesis Hospice.

She was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada on March 31, 1917, the daughter of John & Amanda (Seibel) Hoffstetter. On March 26, 1935, she was united in marriage to Frederick E. Haessler in Rock Island, Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1998.

Catharine was a devoted wife, mom & grandma. Her beloved family was the joy of her life and she loved preparing meals during holidays, birthdays and other special occasions. Catharine loved to dance, took great pride in her flower gardening and enjoyed the simple pleasure of life, such as mowing her grass and taking care of her home.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Loretta (Richard) Hartz of LeClaire and Karen (William) Welter of Central City, Iowa; her sons, Edward (Barb) Haessler of LeClaire, LeRoy (Wanda) Haessler of Davenport, Iowa, Robert Haessler of Geneseo, Illinois and Duayne (Anna) Haessler of LeClaire; twenty-six grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Margaret Timmerman of Sperry, Iowa, Genevieve Valentine of Bettendorf and Violet Smith of Bettendorf; her sister-in-law, Marie Kirby of Princeton, Iowa; along with many other relatives and wonderful friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Frederick Haessler Jr.; her grandson, Matthew Haessler; her sister, Leona Breiderwell; her brothers, John Hoffstetter, Jim Hoffstetter and Bill Hoffstetter; and her daughter-in-law, Kay Haessler.
