Catherine “Katie” Efaw, 88, a resident of Eldridge, Iowa, died Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Kahl Home in Davenport, Iowa.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Private burial will be held at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Born on February 2, 1928 in Mystic, Iowa, Katie was the daughter of Oral and Lemair (Albright) Ford. On May 26, 1946 in Centerville, Iowa, she married Paul Efaw. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2001.
Katie worked outside the home in various positions at the Rock Island Arsenal. She also taught business classes at AIC in Davenport. Later in life Katie graduated with a degree in Accounting from Marycrest College. She worked as an Accountant for various businesses, retiring in 1978. Katie was an avid quilter, and generously shared her talent through teaching and giving of her quilts to others. Quilting was her passion. She also loved gardening. Katie was a member of the Eldridge United Methodist Church.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters and their husbands, Paula and Scott Scherbroeck of Davenport, Millie and Brian Galey of Barrington, Illinois, Debbie and Jerry Moore of Libertyville, Illinois and Cindy and Kenneth McDonald of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Amy, Chris, Orion, David and Blake; great-grandchildren, Zoey, Hunter, Grace and Emma; and a sister, Bernice Decker of Eldridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a sister, Dorothy Lauck.
