Cathy J. Long, 76, of LeClaire, Iowa passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 16th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire. Memorials may be directed to King’s Harvest Pet Rescue, Davenport.
Cathy was born on February 15, 1946 in Monmouth, Illinois, to Mac and Emmy Lou (Nussle) Breed. Following high school she continued her education and graduated from the American Institute of Commerce. On December 20, 1974 she was united in marriage to Larry D. Long in Rock Island. In earlier years, Cathy was employed at Tri-City Electric and Northwest Mechanical. Prior to her retirement, she worked as the office manager at Swanson Construction in Bettendorf. Cathy was a member of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC), was formerly active in Rainbow Girls, and also participated in various bowling leagues for 31 years.
Cathy enjoyed fine wine and dining with good company above all else. Disney Worlds Animal Kingdom or a cruise ship being a close second. Her love of Mickey was exceedingly obvious with a room in her home known only as the Mickey Room. She excelled in the kitchen and spoiled her guests with grand meals. Her boisterous laugh and immense stubbornness will forever linger in the memories of the ones who loved her.
Those left to honor her memory are her children, Shelly Munden of Lenexa, Kansas and Scott Powell of Marion, Iowa; two granddaughters, Sarah (Caleb) Quinn of Pleasant Hill, Missouri and Samantha (Jake Castillo) Munden of Olathe, Kansas; five great-grandchildren, Knox, Luka, Archie, Stella, and Dante; siblings, Bonnie (Larry) Millage of Bettendorf and Charles “Chuck” Breed of Peoria, Arizona; step-children, Loren (Kari) Long of LeClaire, Barry Long of LeClaire, and Heather Becker of Riverdale, Iowa; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and her dear cat, Munchkin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her step-son-in-law, Mike Becker; and her beloved sheltie, Heidi.
