Cecil W. Remaly, 95, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Tuesday, October 01, 2013 at the Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
He will be laid to rest with his beloved wife at the Rock Island National Cemetery where private family services will be held. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa Cook Hospice House. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born July 8, 1918 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Fred & Anna Elva Remaly. On June 29, 1942, he was united in marriage to Leona L. Bence in Kahoka, Missouri.
On July 7, 1942, Cecil enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Northern France, Central Europe and Rhineland. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945, he was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Battle Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.
After his military service, he worked as a mechanic at the former V.J. Neu Company of Davenport and later at the Sylvester Neu Company of Rock Island, Illinois where after many years of faithful service, he retired in 1980.
Cecil was a former member of the Davenport Moose Lodge and the Davenport Elks Lodge.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Cheryl (Joe) Proulx of Coal Valley, Illinois; his son, James (Gail) Remaly of Bettendorf; and several grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona on December 1, 1996; his daughter, Karen Nitzel; his grandson, David Nitzel; and his seven sisters & brothers.
