Cecil M. Ritter, 76, of Blue Grass, Iowa, died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Monday, August 29, 2016 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.  Burial with military honors will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the family.

Cecil was born July 8, 1940 in Davenport, the son of Frederick “Fritz” & Lilly (Hultquist) Ritter.  He was united in marriage to Diane J. Beck-Simatovich on May 28, 1994 in Davenport.

A graduate of Bettendorf High School, Cecil played football and took 2nd in state as a wrestler.  He served in the United Stated Marine Corps from 1962 to 1967 and boxed in the Corps.

He was employed for 35 years with Oscar Mayer and worked part-time for Enterprise Rent-A-Car.  He enjoyed fishing trips with his family, camping and hunting.  Cecil collected Depression glass and also enjoyed playing cards, bowling and spending time outdoors.

Those left to honor Cecil’s memory include his wife, Diane; his daughters, Anna (Steve) Peary of Marshalltown, Iowa, Melissa Simatovich of Davenport and Michelle (Ed) Dooley of Blue Grass; his sons, Cecil (Joy) Ritter, II of Phoenix, Arizona, Gene (Tina) Simatovich of Davenport and Scott (Melissa) Simatovich of Davenport; his grandchildren, Amber, Nicholas, Cassie, Nickolas, Gary, Ryan, Maria, Corbin, Matilda, Lucy, Ashley, Alexis and Andrew; his great-granddaughter, Roselynn and  a great-granddaughter to arrive soon, named after Cecil, Makenna Cecelia Rose; his sisters, Roma (Ron) Fellner of Durant, Iowa, Betty (Gary) DeCraene of Pleasant Valley, Iowa, Sandy Downing of Davenport, Donna (Chuck) Mancil of LeClaire, Iowa and Lori (Gary) Tilton of LeClaire; his brothers, Fred (Sandy) Ritter of Bettendorf, Jack Ritter of Bettendorf and Stephen Ritter of Bettendorf.

Cecil was preceded in death by his parents.
