Charlene Weigle

Charlene Weigle, 98, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Silvercrest in Davenport after living at Garner for 9 years.

A celebration of life may be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge is assisting the family with arrangements.

Charlene Weigle was born December 8, 1916, in Piggott Arkansas, the youngest daughter of James W. and Sylvania Throgmorton.  She attended Piggott Public Schools and graduated from Piggott High School as Valedictorian class of 1934.  She was on the basketball team while attending High School.

She joined Piggott Methodist church at 9 years of age, and later taught Sunday school, remaining a member as long as she lived in Piggott.  Later she transferred her membership to Whitfield Methodist Church and then to Altergate Methodist Church, when she moved to Novi, Michigan.  Charlene and James C. Pollock were married November 17, 1935.  They had two sons; James Kyle Pollock, born June 4, 1938, and Stephen Douglas Pollock, born February 6, 1948.

Her husband, James Pollock died of a myocardial infarction at age 41, April 19, 1957.  Charlene worked for the National Bank of Detroit as a teller, and in 1960 transferred to Probate Trust Department as an accountant.  She retired in 1982 after 28 years of service as Assistant Manager in charge of estate and trust accounting.

During early retirement years Charlene took care of her Mother, Brother, sister and Son during their final illnesses.  After fulfilling her family obligations, she traveled extensively to all but three of states of the United States.  She took part in 10 cruises visiting European countries bordering the Mediterranean, Baltic Sea and English Channel.  Hobbies included traveling, playing bridge, crossword puzzles, reading and visiting with friends.

Charlene is survived by her son Kyle Pollock and wife Ruth of Eldridge IA, four grandchildren: Elizabeth Pollock Avenia of Rock Island, Il. Mike Pollock of Salida, CO.,Stephen Todd Pollock and wife Corinna of Erie, CO. and Kristin (Mark Wittman) of Chicago, Il.  She enjoyed the four great grandchildren: Isabelle and Oliver Pollock, and Campbell and Bennett Wittman.  She also leaves a lifetime friend, Mary Young of Denver, CO.

She was preceded in death by her husband James, son Stephen, a brother and sister, and her parents.

Interment will be in Acacia Masonic Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan, beside her husband, father, mother and son.

The family wishes to thank all staff at Garner, Silvercrest and Unity Point Hospice for their compassionate and special care in the 10 years since leaving Detroit.
