Charles C. Ellis, 92, of Bettendorf, died Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Kahl Home for the Aged in Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, March 15, 2012 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Burial with military honors will be in Davenport Memorial Park.  Memorials may be made to the Kahl Home for the Aged or to the American Diabetes Association.

Charles was born September 21, 1919 in Blytheville, Arkansas, the son of Charley & Allie Mae (Spruell) Ellis.  He was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Wise on August 9, 1941 in Benton, Missouri.  She preceded him in death on September 24, 2002.

Charles retired from Alcoa in Riverdale after 28 years of service.  During World War II, he entered the U.S. Army and served in Japan and the South Pacific.  His memberships included the American Legion Buffalo Bill Post 347 of LeClaire and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9128 of Bettendorf.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and tending to his garden in the summertime.   He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter and son-in-law, Linda Kay & Frank Reese of Davenport; his son, James C. Ellis of Clinton, Iowa; his grandchildren, Terri (Kevin) Raymond, Greg (Tracy) Ellis, Sara (Ryan) McNulty, Nancy Reese and Jason (Dusti) Reese;  his great-grandchildren, Hannah Maring, Alyssa Raymond, Mitchell Raymond, Jacob Ellis and Joshua Ellis; his step-great-grandchild, Garrett Pikesh; his sister, Lucille Stone of Magazine, Arkansas; and his brothers, Frankie D. (Wanda) Ellis of Pleasant Valley, Iowa and Leon John Ellis of Ava, Missouri.

In addition to his wife, Dorothy, Charles was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers and sisters.
