Charles I. Jackson III, 80, of LeClaire, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Avonlea Cottages in Milan, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 2, 2011 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Charles was born November 8, 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Charles I. & Darlene (Fisher) Jackson Jr. He was united in marriage to Elsie M. Heskett on July 15, 1950 in Davenport. She preceded him in death on July 15, 2006
Charles & Elsie owned & operated the Jackson Popcorn Stand in LeClaire, Jackson’s Catering & Concessions, the concession stand at Scott County Park and Jackson’s Drive-In in Pleasant Valley for many years.
Charles had retired from Alcoa as a supervisor in 1983 after 33 years of employment. In earlier years, he had worked at the J.I. Case Company, Barr Trailer and Wright Tree Service.
He loved to build and fix things up as new, and help Elsie with her crafts. Charles was a Jack-of-all-trades and would help anyone at anytime.
He loved to travel with Elsie to Cabo San Lucas and to Palm Springs, California in their RV. Charles was also an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved camping and boating on the Mississippi River.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Charles I. (Marcella) Jackson IV of Oronogo, Missouri; his daughter, Sherrill M. (Kurt) Hansen of Blue Grass, Iowa; his grandchildren, Dawn (Konrad) Kraklio of Wheatland, Iowa, Charles I. Jackson V of Oronogo, Nicholas (Jackie) Hansen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Benjamin Hansen and Luke Hansen, both of Blue Grass; his great-grandchildren, Chase, Kadyn & Kamdyn Kraklio, Charles I. Jackson VI and KayLea Hansen; his brother, Robert Jackson of Oregon; and his sister-in-law, Reva Jackson of Oregon.
In addition to his wife, Elsie; Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Warren; and his sister-in-law, Donna.
The family would like to thank Avonlea Cottages for their tender loving care and support. All the staff loved Charlie. Additional thanks are expressed to Genesis Hospice for being there for Charlie too.
