Charles R. “Dick” Mackin, 82, a resident of Bettendorf, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 2:30 p.m. followed by visitation from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 28 th at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. An additional visitation will be held one hour prior to mass on Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Blandine Club of Davenport.
Born on December 21, 1932 in Davenport, Dick was the son of Francis and Alma (McManus) Mackin. On May 21, 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt, he married Madonna Kass.
Dick served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He began working for Alcoa in 1957 as a pipefitter and was a member of the Aluminum Workers International Union, Local 105. Dick was actively involved in Alcoholics Anonymous for many years, serving as a sponsor to many people. He was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Madonna; daughter, Shiela Ann Mackin of Reno, NV; sons, Richard Patrick (Katrina) Mackin of Port Deposit, MD, Robert Michael (Julie) Mackin of Silvis and Brian Christopher (Melissa) Lehan Mackin of Coralville, IA; six grandchildren, Jennifer, David, Brian, Noah, Max and Crystal; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, David (Carolyn) Mackin of DeWitt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Gene, Bob, Daniel, Thomas and James.
