Charles F. Packard, 86, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Thursday, February 15, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 19, 2007 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or the Disabled American Veterans.
He was born February 14, 1921 in Lee, Massachusetts, the son of Albert & Irene (Barrett) Packard. In 1943, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Warner in Springfield, Massachusetts. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged following the war.
Charles was employed as a mechanical engineer at the Rock Island Arsenal until his retirement. In earlier years, he was a mechanical engineer at the Springfield (MA) Arsenal.
His memberships included Asbury United Methodist Church of Bettendorf and the Bettendorf Masonic Lodge.
In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, camping, boating and travel.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Evelyn; his children, Edward (Diane) Packard of Cleves, Ohio, Janet S. (Michael E. Novak) Collins of Colona, Illinois and Nancy (Harry) George of Waynseburg, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Andrew, Michael, Mark, Justin, Meghan & Nathan; and seven great-grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Albert Packard and Raymond Packard.
