Charles G. Meador, 85, a resident of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Bettendorf died Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, October 3, 2008 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
Charles was born August 21, 1923 in Joplin, Missouri the son of Griffin G. and Evangeline (Hennessey) Meador. He was united in marriage to Dorothy H. Potter in Macon, Missouri of June 8, 1947. She preceded him in death on May 27, 1988.
Charles worked as a teacher for the Bettendorf High School, teaching industrial arts and driver’s education. He was also a coach of many sports, mainly varsity men’s golf.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He loved playing golf and enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, being with friends, playing, cards, grilling, sports and was an avid St Louis Cardinals fan.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Melinda (Charles) Borgman of Centennial, Colorado; his sons, Ed (Sheryl) Meador of Ankeny, Iowa and Christopher (Debbi) Meador of Fairfield, Iowa; his grandchildren, Joel, Christopher, Phillip, Nathan, Cameron, Joshua, Grace, Halie, Isabelle and Benjamin; his sister, Colleen Gilstrap of Canton, Illinois; his sisters-in-law, Mary Frances Potter of Columbia, Missouri and Elaine Meador of Brentwood, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his wife, Dorothy he was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Lou Patton; his brother, Dan “Doc” Meador and his brother-in-law William Gilstrap.
