Charles J. Cale, 89, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 16, 2004 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Foundation.
He was born November 25, 1914 in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Fred & Effie (Pezley) Cale. On July 2, 1937, he was united in marriage to Veva E. Phillips in Bettendorf.
Charles was employed as a core maker at Frank’s Foundry in Moline, Illinois, retiring in 1979 after many years of faithful service. In earlier years, he had worked at the Case Company in Rock Island for 16 years and at Sivyer Steel Company in Bettendorf for 2 years.
His beautiful garden and carefully tended yard were his pride and joy. Many enjoyable hours were spent caring for his vegetables, flowers and other plants and he was fondly referred to as “Gardener” by his family and friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 66 years, Veva; his sons & daughters-in-law, Larry & Linda Cale of Bettendorf and Ron & Ardeania Cale of Davenport; his grandchildren, Michele Fowler & her husband, Brian, Jennifer Cale and Ryan Cale; his great-grandson, Mitchell Fuhs; and his sister, Genevieve Comstock of Redondo Beach, California.
Charles was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Josephine Cale; his sister, Ruby Cale; and his brother Harold Cale.
