Charles J. Ewald, 72, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Friday, November 14, 2003 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Interment will be at a later date at the Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
He was born June 15, 1931 in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Walter & Alice (Stull) Ewald. On June 8, 1955, he was united in marriage to Delores M. McConnell in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army with the 2nd Armored Cavalry. Upon his honorable discharge in 1954, he was awarded the Korean Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Charles was employed by Castle Metal as a truck driver, retiring several years ago. In earlier years, he had been employed by Keokuk County, the City of Bettendorf, the Bettendorf Park Board and Tri-City Blacktop. In addition, he & his wife, owned & operated Boob’s Tavern in McCausland, Iowa for several years.
He was a member of the Bettendorf Police Department Auxillary, loved to camp and enjoyed traveling.
Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Delores; his daughter & son-in-law, Melody & Clifford Stevens of DeWitt, Iowa; his son & daughter-in-law, Timothy J. Ewald & Kathy Rodgers of Bettendorf; his grandchildren, Nicole Ames & her husband, Darin, Tom Stevens and Jenna Stevens; and his “best buddy,”, his dog, Cocoa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his step-father, Tom Doolin.
