Charles R. Crawford, 82, a resident of the Good Samaritan Nursing Center of Davenport, Iowa and formerly of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at Good Samaritan.
His funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, March 26, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 27, 2007 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Foundation.
He was born December 10, 1926 in Sioux City, the son of Harry & Myrtle (Downer) Crawford. On July 27, 1944, he was united in marriage to Ruth Karen Hansen in Sioux City. She preceded him in death on August 28, 2007.
Charles managed the former Dividend Gas Station at River Drive & Pershing in Davenport for many years. He took a great interest in antique cars, antique radios and antique phonographs.
His memberships included Asbury United Methodist Church of Bettendorf and the Horseless Carriage Club.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1954.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Gregory Crawford of Davenport; his sister, Bonnie (Dick) Jonas of Sioux City; and his brother, Gene (Inis) Crawford of Sioux City.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sons, Terry Crawford and Roger Crawford; and his parents.
