Charles R. “Chuck” Mead Jr., 83, a resident of Silvis, Illinois died on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus in Rock Island, Illinois.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 25, 2007 at the Riverview Freewill Baptist Church in Bettendorf, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverview Freewill Baptist Church or to the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born November 11, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Charles R. & Liberty Ann (Jameson) Mead Sr.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 52nd Engineering Battalion in the south Pacific and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1945.
On March 19, 1971, he was united in marriage to Mary B. Williams in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Chuck retired on January 1, 1979 as the Division Manager for the General Telephone Company of San Fernando, California after 34 years of faithful service.
He was a member of the San Fernando Masonic Lodge and in his leisure time enjoyed playing golf and fishing.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary; his daughters, Kelli (Chuck) Martin of Coal Valley, Illinois and Michelle Mead in Massachusetts; his grandchildren, Freddie Moscone, Nicole Mead, Faye Marie Witham, Daniel Branaugh and Samantha Martin; and his great-grandson, Rolando Witham.
Chuck was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Warner; his son, William Mead; and his sisters, Barbara Babbitt and Patricia Noonan.
