Charles R. "Chuck" Tharp, 81, of Bettendorf, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at Bettendorf Healthcare Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. A Masonic Service conducted by Hamilton Lodge #664 of Bettendorf will be held at 7:00 P.M. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Chuck was born May 3, 1926 in Davenport, the son of Sherman & Mabel (Fox) Tharp. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy. Chuck was united in marriage to Patse K. Conklin at Bettendorf Presbyterian Church on June 24, 1950. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2007 after 57 wonderful years of marriage and they are now joined together again.
Chuck began his career as a mill operator at Alcoa, Davenport Works on October 9, 1953 and retired on June 30, 1989 after 45 years of employment. His memberships included Bettendorf Presbyterian Church, Hamilton Lodge #664, and he was a former member of the V.F.W. Post 9128, of Bettendorf.
Chuck was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers fan.
Those left to honor her memory include his daughter, Vicki (Dennis) Tharp-Petersen, of Davenport; his son, Jeffrey (Jackie) Tharp, of Blue Grass, Iowa; his grandchildren, Jason Sweeney, Tamara (Marcus) Bohland, Jeffrey “J.R.” Tharp, Kelly Petersen, Kim Petersen, Kyle Petersen; his great-grandchildren, Brianna, Tyler, and Hayden Bohland; and his sisters, Edna Sweeney, of Bettendorf and Patty Ikuta, of Appleton, Wisconsin.
In addition to his wife, Patse, Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Hooks; and his brothers, Robert & Ronald.
