Clara L. Wittig

Clara L. Wittig, 91, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Monday, January 07, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Davenport.
Her funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 11, 2008 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel in Bettendorf. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Davenport where she was a long-time member or to the Good Samaritan Nursing Center.
She was born January 9, 1916 in LeClaire, Iowa, the daughter of Henry & Hanna (Neelsen) Rath. On April 28, 1942, she was united in marriage to William Wittig in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1965.
Clara & her husband farmed for many years near LeClaire. In later years, she was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in January of 1985.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Susan Wittig of Davenport; her sons, James (Carol) Wittig of Chicago, Illinois and William (Nelda) Wittig of Iowa City, Iowa; her grandchildren, Sarah (Josh) Galgano, Emily Wittig and Allison Wittig; and her great-grandchildren, Aidan & Isabelle Galgano.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bernard Rath and by an infant daughter.
