Clarence A. Stotlar, 76, died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at Meadowlawn Nursing Facility, Davenport. Funeral services and Masonic services will be 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 17, 2005 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Monday. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be to Animal Aid of Moline.
Clarence was born December 31, 1928 in Sparks, Kansas, the son of Oliver Lee & Flora (Simpson) Stotlar. He was united on marriage to Evelyn J. Vance on April 23, 1951 in Peoria, Illinois. She preceded him in death on December 18, 2000.
Clarence had owned and operated a Texaco station with Evelyn at 35th and Harrison Streets in Davenport for a number of years. He had also been a sheet metal inspector and an inspector of electronic parts. Also, he had been an over-the-road truck driver and a towing dispatcher.
Clarence was very active in the Masonic Lodge in the Quad-Cities and, in earlier years, in Texas. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 37 in Davenport and achieved the 32nd degree York Rite. Also, he was a Master Mason and had been a member of the Kaaba Shrine. Clarence also enjoyed playing chess and loved animals of all kinds.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Frank Dobbins, Davenport; his sons, Michael Stotlar, Bettendorf, Clarence Stotlar II, Davenport, and Mark Stotlar, Bettendorf; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Evelyn, he was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; his daughter, Gladys Colleen in 1968; and his brother Aaron.
