Obituary: Claud E. Smithson

Claud E. Smithson, 74, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Friday, May 5, 2006 at his home.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be from 5:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Davenport.
He was born September 29, 1931 in Woodbury, Tennessee, the son of Luther Acre & Tawnie Belle (Wortham) Smithson. On September 29, 1951, he was united in marriage to Marjorie L. Kerr in Moline, Illinois. She preceded him in death on February 20, 1980.
Claude was employed at John Deere Harvester in East Moline, Illinois, retiring in May of 1990 after 30 years of service.
His memberships included the United Auto Worker’s Union, Local 865 of Moline, Illinois and St. Paul Lutheran Church of Davenport.
In years past, he enjoyed attending the annual Thresher’s Reunion at Mt. Pleasant. His favorite times were those spent with his beloved children and grandchildren.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter & son-in-law, Vicki & James Fyfe of Bettendorf; his sons & daughters-in-law, David & Juanita Smithson of Smithville, Tennessee and Howard & Gail Smithson of Jacksonville, Florida; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a special niece, Shirley Manlick & her husband, Dale of Reynolds, Illinois.
In addition to his wife, Claud was preceded in death by ten sisters & brothers.
