Clifford "Skip" Suiter

Clifford (“Skip”) Suiter of LeClaire, Iowa passed away on February 6, 2023, at Clarissa Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.  Funeral services will be 11:30 am Friday, February 10, 2023, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home.  A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to service time on Friday.

Skip was born on January 15, 1932, in LeClaire to Robert and Alvena (Dittmer) Suiter.  He attended LeClaire High School, graduating in 1949.  He married Rosemary “Rosie” (Erling) Suiter in 1952 and was preceded in death by her in 2013.  Skip and Rosemary were married for 61 years and lived their lives in both Princeton and LeClaire, Iowa

He is survived by his children:  Marilyn Irwin (Steve Henson) of LeClaire, Iowa; Robert (Cindy) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Steve (Julia) of Bettendorf, Iowa.  He is also survived by many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as his brothers Cecil (Joyce) and Clarence.

As a teenager, Skip worked at the Davenport Country Club caddying and mowing the course.  He served as a Medic in the Iowa National Guard before beginning a life-long career working at several locally owned lumber companies as an estimator for new home construction.  He built the first home he and Rosie lived in.  In his spare time, he enjoyed helping his family, puttering around in his garage, and tinkering with the many cars he owned throughout the years.  In recent years, Skip spent the summer months mowing lawns for his many friends and neighbors as well as the First Presbyterian Church in LeClaire.  Skip’s legacy of caring devotion to family and friends will be carried on by his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of LeClaire.
