Clyde L. Spurrier, 83, of LeClaire, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
Graveside services will be held at 9:00 a.m., Monday, January 5, 2015 at Rock Island National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the service should meet at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf by 8:30 a.m. on Monday. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
Clyde was born March 25, 1931 in Davenport, the son of Clyde C. & Gladys I. (England) Spurrier. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Clyde was a Staff Sergeant stationed in Germany where he was the head of a radio school. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
Clyde was retired from Alcoa after 38 years of employment. After retirement he enjoyed catfish fishing.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter and son-in-law, Debra & Randy Munro of DeWitt; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael & Karen Spurrier of LeClaire; his grandchildren, Kelly (Jeff) Lestina, Lisa (Ian) Poole, Stephanie (Kirk) Loudy, Brent (Jessica) Munro and Blake Munro; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, AnnaBeth Stierwalt of Phoenix, Arizona; and his brother and sister-in-law, Earl & Anna Spurrier of Taylorville, Illinois.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; and by his sister, Wanda.
