Command Sergeant Major (Retired) James Carl "Jim" Trask, age 71, of Park View, Iowa, died Friday, October 22, 2021 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Private family services will be handled by Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge, Iowa. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Park View Lutheran Church.
He was born in Moline, Illinois, on July 23, 1950, a son of Ralph Lane Trask and Doris Virginia (née Welsh) Trask. James was a 1968 graduate of United Township High School in East Moline, Illinois.
He married Kay Estella Sharpe in 1970; he was later married to Linda Sue Dau in 1983.
Jim served in the Regular Army and the Iowa Army National Guard from 1970 to 2010. He was proudest of his service in the Afghanistan War with the 10th Mountain Division in 2003 and 2004. He retired from the Army Aviation Support Facility #3 in Davenport, Iowa on 30 June 2010. After retirement, family genealogy became his passion. He spent several hours each day researching and writing about his family history.
Among his numerous personal decorations are the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal,Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Iowa Distinguished Service Medal, The Honorable Order of St. Michael Bronze Award, Master Aviation Wings, and Expert Qualification Badge for Rifle, Pistol, and Grenade.
Jim was a member of Park View Lutheran Church. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 639 in Eldridge, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6174 in Eldridge, Army Aviation Association of America, U.S. Army Aviation Museum Foundation, Enlisted Association National Guard of Iowa, and the Iowa ARNG Sergeants Major Association.
Survivors include his wife, Linda; his daughter, Sarah Kay Dorathy (Todd) of Port Byron, Illinois; his son, Jeffrey Lane Trask (Emily) of Davenport; his grandsons, Aidan Dorathy, Devin Dorathy, Carson Dorathy, Luke Trask and Noah Trask (twins); his brother, Frank Trask (Pam) of Saltillo, Mississippi; his sister, Linda Trask of Centennial, Colorado; his brother, Jerry Trask (Darlene) of Conway, South Carolina; his cousin, Joan Reeves of Lockport, Illinois; five nieces, two nephews; many grand and great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; and his dog, Nicky.
