Curtis L. Duncan, 67, of Dixon, Iowa, passed away at his home as a result of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) on Thursday, September 27, 2018.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Chambers Funeral Home in Eldridge. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Allens Grove Cemetery in Donahue, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the ALS Association or to Hospice Compassus.
Curtis was born January 20, 1951 in Aledo, Illinois, the son of Terry & Bernice (Finch) Duncan. He was a graduate of Winola High School in Viola, Illinois and was united in marriage to Laura C. Graff on July 29, 1978 in Greenville, Illinois.
Curtis had received Associates’ degrees in Respiratory Therapy and Physical Therapy from Black Hawk College. He had also earned a Bachelor’s degree from Western Illinois University. He had been employed as a Respiratory Therapist at many places, including the former St. Luke’s Hospital in Davenport, Iowa, Mercy Hospital in Clinton, Iowa and the University of Michigan Health Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
He was also a Physical Therapist Assistant at several places including Rosewood Care Center in Moline, Illinois, Mercy Hospital in Clinton and Pearl Valley Rehabilitation Center in Muscatine, Iowa. He was a hard worker and provider and very skilled at both professions earning clinical specialist titles and awards.
He enjoyed pheasant and quail hunting with his dogs; enjoying a great comradery and understanding with them. A devoted husband and father, Curtis provided for Laura and Alex, and was very proud of his son's musical talents. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Laura; his son, Alex Duncan, at home; his sister and brother-in-law, Sandra & Kenny McMaster of Punta Gorda, Florida; his brother and sister-in-law, Joe & Robin Duncan of Colona, Illinois; many beloved nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and his sisters-in-law, Patty (Marc) Conway of Reynolds, Illinois and Barbara (Jim) Balcer of Flint, Michigan. He also was very close to his cousin, Steve Mulfinger, and his best friend, Steve Townsend.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Connie Evans.
