Dale O. Brown, 84, a long term resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital in Yakima, Washington. He recently moved to Washington to be closer to family.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Pleasant Valley, Iowa where he was a member. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf, Iowa. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.

He was born March 18, 1927 in Sigourney, Iowa, the son of Glen O. & Margaret Pearl (Gross) Brown. Dale enlisted in the U.S. Navy in March of 1944 and served aboard the USS Bunker Hill and USS R.E. Coontz. He traveled to the Philippines and Japan during the war and was involved in the battles in Guam, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Upon his honorable discharge in June of 1946, he was awarded a Purple Heart medal, several combat ribbons and bronze battle stars for his meritorious service.

On August 18, 1946, he was united in marriage to Stella “Irene” Clifton in Pleasant Valley. She preceded him in death on September 25, 1983. On June 17, 1989, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Ann Burrack in Pleasant Valley. She preceded him in death on August 18, 2011.

Dale was employed at the Alcoa Company for 32 years, retiring in 1985 as the Roll Shop Supervisor. Following his retirement, he started a consulting firm and was named Cambridge Who’s Who Professional of the Year in the aluminum industry.

In addition to the church, he was a member of the Alcoa Retirees Club, the Alcoa 25-Year Club, the Davenport Moose Club, the American Legion and the Plus-60 Club.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Sandra (Wayne) Bradley of The Villages, Florida and Pattie Jo (John) Howe of Ogallala, Nebraska; his son, Dwaine (Julia) Brown of Selah, Washington; his grandchildren, Ryan (Amy) Brown, Erin Brown, Carrie (Ted) Skarbek, Jeremy (Kim) Bradley, Zachary Bradley, Melissa (Paul) Lucas, Andrea (Ben) Lodwick , Russell Howe, Thomas (Kristi) Howe, Lindsey Brown, Rylee Brown and Sara Brown; ten great-grandchildren; his step-daughters, Kristine (Aaron) Pugliese of Denver, Colorado and Kim (Kevin) McVey of Midland, Michigan; his step-grandchildren, Jared McVey, Katelyn McVey, June Pugliese and Finn Pugliese; and many other relatives and beloved friends.

In addition to his wives, Dale was preceded in death by his son, Ron Brown in 1997, his sister Arlene Webster and his brother, Wayne Glenn Brown.
