Dale C. Terry, 81, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Monday, July 25, 2011 at Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 28, 2011 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf, Iowa. Private burial will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Dale was born October 18, 1929 in Waverly, Iowa the son of Archie D. and Mabel M. (Whannel) Terry. He was united in marriage to Mary Ann Fairhurst in Cedar Falls, Iowa on December 20, 1952. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1953. He was a graduate of the Iowa State Teachers College which is now the University of Northern Iowa.
Dale worked as a teacher until retirement in 1992. He taught two years in LeClaire, Iowa and the last thirty-seven years at Hayes Elementary School, Davenport, Iowa. He was also a coach and a swimming instructor.
He enjoyed fishing, golfing, travel, camping, watching birds and being with friends and family. He was a “Remington Raider” in the Air Force. He and Mary Ann spent twelve winters in Apache Junction, Arizona where he and his buddy, Eddie enjoyed taking a Baja buggie out into the mountains.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary Ann, Bettendorf; his daughter, Patty (Dennis) Gamble, LeClaire; his sons, Scott (Susie) Terry, Dysart, Iowa and Christopher (Shari) Terry, Bettendorf; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and his lifelong friend, Frank Snook and his wife Jean.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
