Dallas G. Taylor, 89, a resident of Davenport, Iowa died on Sunday, November 14, 2010 at his home.
A joint committal service for Dallas & his late wife, Margaret will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 20, 2010 in the chapel at Davenport Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad-Cities. Dallas traveled on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. on November 9 th . McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born May 2, 1921 in Bettendorf, the son of Grover & Nell (Lovelett) Taylor. On December 10, 1944, he was united in marriage to Margaret Nielsen in Bettendorf. She preceded him in death on February 6, 2009.
Dallas was a lather affiliated with the Wood, Wire & Metal Lathers International and had worked for many years at Daley Lathers of Davenport and later for Builder’s Lathers.
During World War II, he proudly served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946 and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in combat while serving in the South Pacific.
Dallas was a “rock-hound” and was a member of the Illowa Gem & Mineral Society. In addition, he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, Aprile, Debbie & Tom, Mary & Toby, Mike & Diana, Sheila, Jeff & Sally, Cinde and Gary & Pattie; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a cousin, Vern Taylor.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a grandchild; a great-grandchild; two sons-in-law and two sisters.
