Daniel B. Campbell, 85, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf. At his request, his body has been deeded to the University Of Iowa Department Of Anatomy, Iowa City, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility Community Room. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Iowa Masonic Health Facility or to the Beacon of Hope Hospice. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was born February 15, 1920 in Mt. Zion, Iowa, the son of Charles Alexander and Florence (Bauman) Campbell. Dan graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 101st Airborne in Normandy, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was honorably discharged at a Tech Sergeant in 1945 and was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Battle Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge, the Bronze Arrowhead, the Belgium Fourragere, the World War II Victory, 4 Overseas Service Bars and 1 Service Stripe.
Dan & the former Virginia Jean Farhner were united in marriage in 1950 in Fairfield, Iowa. Virginia preceded him in death in 1972.
He was employed as an electrical engineer for the Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, retiring in 1984 after 24 years of service.
During his spare time, he enjoyed fly fishing for trout, quail hunting, amateur radio, working on his computer and companionship of his beloved Shelties.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Jacqueline Anne Campbell of Swantown, Ohio; his son, Daniel B. Campbell Jr., of LeClaire, Iowa; and his sisters, Mona Emmert of Jacksonville, Florida and Margaret Campbell of Washington, Iowa.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Arnold; and by his brother, Robert Campbell.
