Darlene Ann Merkel, 50, a resident of LeClaire, Iowa died on Thursday, September 2, 2004 after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to her family.
She was born September 1, 2954 in Davenport, Iowa, the beloved daughter of Kenneth & Marie (Brand) Spinsby and was a 1972 graduate of Pleasant Valley High School. On September 1, 2000, she was united in marriage to DeWayne D. Merkel in LeClaire.
Darlene was employed as a hostess at Steventon’s Restaurant in LeClaire and in earlier years, as a hostess at the former Davenport Club.
She was Past-Matron of the Silver Creek Chapter #302, Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Daughters of the Nile.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, DeWayne; her son, Todd Snyder & his wife, Lori of St. James, Missouri; her step-daughter, Elizabeth Merkel of LeClaire; her step-son, Brian Merkel & his wife, Amanda of LeClaire; one grandson; two step-grandchildren; her parents, Kenneth & Marie Spinsby of LeClaire; her grandmother, Maxine Spinsby of LeClaire; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
