Daryl Harter, 83, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. noon on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park, Davenport, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the family.
Daryl was born September 21, 1925 in Le Claire, Iowa the son of Roy and Zella (Dennison) Harter. He served with the United States Merchant Marines during World War II. He was united in marriage to Lyla Nixon on July 6, 1949 in Moline, Illinois. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Daryl worked as a grinder at the John Deere Plow and Planter Works in Moline, Illinois. He enjoyed painting, camping, fishing and being outdoors.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Lyla, his daughters, Cheryl (Robert) Campbell of Bettendorf and Deborah (Frank) Painter of Bettendorf; his grandson, Jeremy Painter and his brother, Ennis Harter of Havana, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Harter in 1993.
