David L. Fanning, 70, a resident of Princeton, Iowa died on Tuesday, May 07, 2013 at his home following an extended illness.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, May 10, 2013 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Oakridge Cemetery in Princeton where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to the Princeton Volunteer Fire Department or the Oakridge Cemetery Association.
He was born in Green City, Missouri on August 10, 1942, the son of Walter Lee & Ramah Ilene (Morris) Fanning. In 1961, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in France and Germany. He was honorably discharged as a Specialist 4 th Class on August 27, 1964. On June 15, 1968, he was united in marriage to Mary A. Woods at Bettendorf Presbyterian Church.
David was retired from the Great River Bank & Trust of Princeton where he was in charge of maintenance. In earlier years, he worked in sales for the ABC Bolt & Tool Company of Davenport.
His memberships included the Buffalo Bill American Legion Post 347 of LeClaire, Iowa where he formerly served on the Honor Guard. He was also a member and 2-term president of the former Princeton Lions Club, a member of Snow Masonic Lodge #44 of LeClaire and faithfully served as President of the Oakridge Cemetery Association. Dave was also former resident of Sullivan County, Missouri and while there, was a member of the Browning American Legion Post where he served as past-commander and Boy’s State Chairman.
He enjoyed riding his “Trike” in various events and parades, loved to go camping & fishing and especially treasured the times spent with his beloved wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary; his sons, Gary (Beverly) Fanning of Hughesville, Missouri, Joe (Shawn) Fanning of New Boston, Illinois and Thomas Sullivan of Davenport; his grandchildren, Clint (Cecilia) Fanning of Princeton, Cynthia Fanning of Hughesville and Cody Fanning of New Boston; his great-grandchildren, Serenity & Jacob Fanning; and his sister, Dorothy (Dale) Ganzer of Davenport.
David was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Carol Ilene Fanning.
