David Eugene Horner, 64, of Maquoketa, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at his daughter’s home in Davenport.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 24, 2012 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial, with full military honors, will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services on Monday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established in his memory.
David was born on August 5, 1948 in Chicago, IL, the son of Lowell Junior and Dorothy (Nyberg) Horner.
David served his country in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War and was honorably discharged, receiving a purple heart. He was a mechanic by trade. David enjoyed fishing and collected coins, guns and kerosene lamps.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughters, Christina Horner of Davenport and Denise Allen of Perry, IA; his son, Dale Allen of Kansas City, KS; his mother, Dorothy Horner of Toronto, IA; five grandchildren, Jeremiah, Olivia, Yadiar, Michael and Izhais; his sisters, Dawn Edler of Dixon; his brothers, Daniel Horner of New Castle, CO, Lowell “Dean” Horner of Amana and Douglas Horner of Bellevue; and his three loyal pets, Carmella, Diva and Divo.
He was preceded in death by his father.
