David Hughes

David D. Hughes, 88, of Davenport passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the Kahl Home, Davenport.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.  Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport.  Memorials may be directed to Newcomb Presbyterian Church, Davenport.

David was born on January 22, 1934 in Davenport, the son of Ralph and Gertrude (Green) Hughes.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1962.  On June 4, 1960, he was united in marriage to Lilah Cosner in Rock Island, Illinois.  David worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years prior to his retirement in 1999.  He was a member of the Davenport Moose Lodge and The Independent Order of Foresters.  He enjoyed reading western novels and watching classic westerns on television. He was also an avid history buff and collector of military, Civil War, and American history memorabilia and literature.

Those left to honor his memory are his daughter, Loralie Gomez of Davenport; former wife, Lilah Hughes of Davenport; sister-in-law, Donna Hughes of Davenport; granddaughters, Jenny (Adam) Henry of Dallas, Texas, Megan Gomez of Davenport, and Lisa Gomez of Iowa City, Iowa; a great-grandson, Cayden Jacobsen;  numerous nieces and nephews, and his friend, LaVonne.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight brothers, Ralph (Norma), William (Mary Jane), Robert, Thomas, John “Jack”, Dennis (Carol), Paul (Madelyn), and Timothy.
