David W. Hixson, 73, a resident of Pleasant Valley, Iowa died Sunday, January 30, 2005 at Trinity at Terrace Park Medical Center, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 4, 2005 at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Pleasant Valley, where he was a member or to the American Cancer Society.
David was born April 6, 1931 in Chariton, Iowa, the son of Otis T. & Iris (Gunn) Hixson. On June 26, 1955, he was united in marriage to LaDonna Jean Benway in Chariton. She preceded him in death on December 21, 1989.
He was employed as a machinist & lathe operator at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline, Illinois, retiring in 1986 after 28 years of employment.
During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army.
In addition to the church, David was a member of Hamilton Lodge #664, A.F. & A.M. of Bettendorf, the Davenport Consistory, the Amateur Radio Club, the Family Campers & RV’er’s Association and the Holiday Ramblers Camping Club. David was a volunteer member of the Old Thresher’s Reunion at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa operating the Steam Powerhouse Machine Shop.
David was very mechanically inclined, could fix virtually anything and loved to work on anything mechanical.
Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Danette Johnson of Pleasant Valley; his granddaughters, Brittania & Jasmine Johnson; and his sister, Twyla James of Melcher, Iowa.
In addition to his wife, David was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Michelle; and by his parents.
