Dean M. Schneckloth, 72, of Eldridge, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf after an extended illness.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013 at Faith Lutheran Church in Eldridge. Burial will follow at a later date in St. Ann’s Cemetery in Long Grove, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Peggy Darland Memorial Scholarship or the Dawn Schneckloth Memorial Scholarship at North Scott High School.
Dean was born February 23, 1941 in Davenport, the son of Merle J. & Ione K. (Hoffmann) Schneckloth. He was a 1959 graduate of North Scott High School’s first graduating class. On July 1, 1961, he was united in marriage to Mary M. Ellis in Long Grove.
Dean had sold machinery and had farmed in Scott County for many years. Alongside his uncle and grandfather, he had shown Belgian Draft Horses. He also served as Superintendent of the National Belgian Show in Davenport for twenty-two years.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mary; his sons, Don (Andrea) Schneckloth of Donahue, Iowa and Tom (Kelly) Schneckloth of Eldridge; his grandchildren, Shannon, Nicki, Amanda, Aly & Sarah; his great-grandchildren, Breanna, Lainey & Emmit; his sister, Tami (Joe) Gumpert of Eldridge; his brothers, Jim (Janice) Schneckloth, Bob (Sue) Schneckloth and Dan (Jana) Schneckloth, all of Eldridge; and several nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his father, Merle in 2002; his mother, Ione on February 10, 2013; his sister, Peggy Darland in 1982; his nephew, Dane Schneckloth in 2011; and his sister-in-law, Dawn Schneckloth in 2004.
