Delbert Blunk

Delbert E. Blunk, 86, a resident of rural Bettendorf, Iowa died on Monday, January 17, 2011 at his home.

His funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, January 21, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Davenport where he was a member.  Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Pleasant Valley, Iowa.  Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Scott County 4-H, where a fund will be established in Delbert's name.  McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.

He was born January 11, 1925 in LeClaire, Iowa, the son of Walter & Mabel (Boeh) Blunk.  On December 11, 1946, he was united in marriage to Jeannette L. Kuehl at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport.

Delbert was a life-long farmer in Scott County and devoted his life to his family, his farm & his friends.  The Blunk farm was a Century Farm having been in the family for 130 years and is the site of the former Forest Grove School, a one-room schoolhouse where Delbert received his early education.  After graduating from Forest Grove School, he attended and graduated from Davenport High School in 1943.

In addition to the church, he was a member of the Scott County Farm Bureau and Scott County Pork Producers. He was a long-time member of the Scott County Zoning Board and an elected member of the Pleasant Valley School Board.  Delbert was a 51-year member of the Pleasant Valley Fire Department where he was the Assistant Chief in later years.  In earlier years, Delbert, Jeannette and the children were active in 4-H and enjoyed their involvement with the Mississippi Valley Fair each summer.

Farm life was a joy of Delbert's, and he was fortunate to spend his final days there.  Although he will be sadly missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew & loved him.

Those left to honor his memory include his beloved wife, Jeannette; his daughter, Barb (Ric) Andersen of Muscatine, Iowa & their children, Meredith Andersen & Liam Andersen; his son, David Blunk of Santa Barbara, California; his son, Larry (Judi) Blunk & their children, Roger Blunk, Kyle Blunk, Lisa Blunk & Allison (Jeremy) Schmitz; his son, Rod Blunk & his children, Laura Blunk, Austin Blunk, Ryan Blunk & Landry Blunk; and his son, Bob (Michelle) Blunk & their children, Carter Blunk, Cameron Blunk & Cara Blunk; and his former daughter-in-law, Annette Blunk of LeClaire.

His sister, Mildred (Blunk) Schnekloth preceded him in death.
