Dennis Berner

Dennis Lee “Denny” Berner, 67, a resident of Davenport, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus in Davenport.

Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 13, 2015 at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 12th from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family for distribution to various favorite charities.

Born on June 6, 1948 in Charles City, Iowa, Denny was the son of Howard and Pauline Joyce (Jones) Berner. He married Julia A. Stewart. They later divorced. On June 13, 1987 in Davenport, Denny married Cindy Meierotto.

Denny was a 1966 graduate of Davenport West High School. He served in the National Guard and worked as an Electrical Design Tech for MidAmerican Energy, retiring in 2008. Denny was a member of the Davenport Moose Lodge. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing softball and coaching baseball. He also enjoyed golfing and traveling with his wife, Cindy. Denny was an avid Chicago Cubs, Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes Fan. He loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and drinking his signature beer, Hamm’s.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Cindy; children, Kevin (Steph Runge) Berner of Blue Grass, Tammy (Aaron Anderson) Knuth of Davenport, Debbie Meierotto of Des Moines and Chris (Karen) Anderson of Maquoketa; grandchildren, Jake, Jordan, William “Billy”, Jensen, Jarrett, Lauryn, Rylee and Hunter; sister, Colleen Berner of Davenport, brother, Ed Berner of Davenport; and his best friends, Tim Scott and Mike “Charlie” Bowker.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
