Dennis M. Cary Jr., 88, of Bettendorf, Iowa passed away at Genesis of Silvis on Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
He was born February 20, 1934 in Clarinda, Iowa to Dennis and Lela (Hoffman) Cary. He graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1953. “Junior”, as he was most commonly known, enjoyed playing cards and board games with his friends and family. Not being able to play consistently through the pandemic was his greatest frustration. He really missed his friends at Thomas Place and CASI. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and everything Iowa Hawkeyes.
Junior was an Army veteran and was very proud of his service. He served from October of 1953 to October of 1959. He was stationed at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, Fort Riley, Kansas and Camp Drake, Japan. Junior worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and Mahler Concrete. He also loved to drive and delivered parts for Advance Auto Parts and drove a bus for River Bend Transit.
Junior had a longtime companion, Dee Cary. The two were married for some time and after divorcing they remained companions and enjoyed spending time together. They helped each other out in various ways. They enjoyed grabbing a bite to eat and going on drives around town. You could often find them eating and taking in the views at Leach Park.
Those left to honor his memory are his sons, Dennis (Cindy) Cary of Bettendorf; Stephen (Sylvia) Cary of La Mesa, New Mexico: five grandchildren Rose, Madalyn and Travis of New Mexico; Talia and Eric of Bettendorf; sister Colleen (Pete) Lehman of Bettendorf; nephews Brian and Brad Cary, Craig Lehman; nieces Pam Hughes, Vickie Smith and Linda Lienhard and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis Sr. and Lela Cary; brothers; Darwin Cary (infant), Eugene Krieger, Dallas Cary, Danny Cary Sr.; nephews Bart Cary, Brett Cary and Danny Cary Jr.
Junior wanted his friends and family to know that he “loved them”.
A procession from McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home, Bettendorf will depart on June 22, 2022, at 9:15 A.M. for a graveside internment at The Rock Island National Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
