Dennis Gray

November 30, 1949 — March 28, 2017

Dennis W. “Denny” Gray, 67, of Davenport, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in Fairfield, California.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, April 7, 2017 at Westside Assembly of God in Davenport where he was a member.  Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.  Burial will be at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Long Grove, Iowa where military honors will be performed by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Quad-Cities Chapter 299.   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to Vietnam Veterans of America, Quad-Cities Chapter 299

Denny was born November 30, 1949 in Moline, Illinois, the son of Ervin K. & Donna J. (Hoskins) Gray.  He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

Denny was retired from Oscar Mayer in Davenport.  He served the City of Rock Island as a Firefighter/EMT for 11 years and had proudly started the EMT program at Oscar Mayer.

Denny rode Harley Davidsons, rode with the Patriot Guard Riders, avidly supported the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals and was very active in his church, Westside Assembly.  Denny also served with the Vietnam Veterans of America Quad-Cities Chapter 299.  He especially enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughter, Stephanie Gray of Silvis; his grandsons, Koehler Gray of Loveland, Colorado, Jose Martin and Allen Valtierra-Gray, both of Silvis; his sister and brother-in-law, Claudia & Mel Hill of Eldridge; his nephews, Mark (Gina) Eckhardt of Fairfield, California, Sean (Stephanie) Eckhardt of Davenport and Dan (Jeanette) Kivlin of Davenport; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents; his twin sister, Ruth Ziegenbein; and his nephew, John Kivlin.
