Dennis O. Ferkel

Dennis O. Ferkel, 66, of Eldridge, Iowa, died Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Chambers Funeral Home, Eldridge. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Private graveside services will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Dennis was born May 28, 1942 in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of LeRoy & Betty (Howard) Ferkel. He was united in marriage to Carolann Brand on October 28, 1979 in Blue Grass, Iowa.
Dennis retired in 1996 from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department in Reno, Nevada. In earlier years, he had worked at the Oscar Meyer Company in Davenport. He enjoyed fishing and bird hunting and was also an enthusiast of motorcycling and model railroading. Additionally, Dennis will be remembered as a being a very patriotic person, proud of his country.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Carolann; his daughter, Tammy Sue Sarnes, of Texas; his son, Jesse (Sue) Ferkel, of Donahue, Iowa; and his grandchildren, Amber Sarnes and Brett Ferkel.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Ferkel; his step-son, Matthew Wayne Ferkel; his brother, Michael; and his sister, Nancy.
